Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld immortalized in waxwork

Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has been immortalised in wax at one of Germany’s oldest waxwork museums.

The fashion mogul has joined Pope Benedict XVI, Harry Potter, Henry VIII and German chancellor Angela Merkel at the 125-year-old attraction located in his hometown of Hamburg.

Taking almost a year to create, the life-size model bears an uncanny resemblance to the 78-year-old, finished with a neat white ponytail, dark glasses, fingerless leather gloves and tailored black suit.

Created by a team of sculptors, the Lagerfeld waxwork was officially unveiled last week.

The Paris-based designer’s  original name was Lagerfeldt, but he later changed it to Lagerfeld as it sounds more commercial.

Since finishing his eductaion at the Lycée Montaigne in Paris, where he majored in drawing and history, he has worked with some of the world’s top fashion houses over the decades including Fendi, Valentino.

Next on the cards is a collaboration with Japanese beauty giant Shu Uemura on a one-off beauty line set to go on sale internationally this November.

He is well accustomed to the brand, having used Shu Uemura cosmetics to hand-color his fashion sketches for over two decades.

The creator has now come up with a special holiday collection for the firm, which will be labeled Karl Lagerfeld for Shu Uemura.
