Bulgari launches precious La Gemme eyewear for him & her
Bulgari La Gemme Eyewear Collection
Looking at the world through rose-colored glasses? Maybe it’s time to try rose gold.
Bulgari, purveyor of show-stopping jewels and gems, is getting into the eyewear market with its appropriately named La Gemme collection, in a partnership with Luxottica. The sun and optical specs come trimmed with 18-karat yellow, white, or pink gold and studded with stones such as colored sapphires, mother-of-pearl, pink quartz and chalcedony, amethyst, citrine, orange agate, and hematite.
The women’s collection, called Primavera, comes with small flowers at the temples, while the men’s Zephyr collection features two-tone arms in 18-karat gold and titanium.
The collection, presented in a enchanted and floral setting at the Palazzo Durini in Milan on 28 June 28, 2011, consists of the Primavera, a feminine line for women adorned by precious and semi precious stones, Zephyr, an elegant and simple line for men, and Le Gemme Rare, ten extraordinary one of a kind pieces of haute-joaillerie. All these will be available in all Bulgari boutiques and selected opticians from October 2011.
If the Primavera and Zephyr collections just aren’t opulent enough (depending on the gold and stones, they can run from $780 to $12,000), then there’s the La Gemme Rare collection—10 pairs of one-of-a-kind glasses “designed to represent the quintessence of Bulgari design in the world of eyewear,” according to a release.
Bulgari image model Kirsten Dunst was photographed last month at the Cannes Film Festival wearing one. La Gemme Rare’s ultra-haute styles include pavé diamonds in addition to the aforementioned gemstones, and the collection of 10 glasses took about seven months to complete by hand.

The price for these stunners? According to Women’s Wear Daily, they will retail for $44,000 to $92,000.
